When to "Niche Down" (and When Not to)

Important lesson today...

You've probably heard the saying, "grow rich in your niche," right?

The idea: narrow your focus and dominate a tiny segment of your market.

But here's what's confusing:

The opposite is true for blogging.

If you want to get traffic, you actually want to write about BROAD topics, so people will share it with their friends and family.

From there, you want to filter people into "buckets" based on why they are interested in that topic.

And then when you go to sell a course or book, you want your message to be as SPECIFIC (and usually narrow) as possible.

My friend Ryan Levesque has a great case study and PDF workbook about this:

How I Made My First $1 Million Online, Step-By-Step

It walks you through how he multiplied his income by 10X by segmenting his list into "buckets" and then talking differently to each bucket. Definitely worth taking a look.

Talk soon,

Jon
